Best Time to Visit Trimbakeshwar: Season, Day and Festival Guide

By · · 6 min read

Quick answer

October to March is the most comfortable time to visit Trimbakeshwar, with pleasant weather and good conditions for darshan and nearby trips. For shorter queues, visit early in the morning from Tuesday to Thursday. Plan carefully around Mahashivratri, Shravan Mondays, Kartik Purnima and the August–September 2027 Kumbh peak. Our Shri Gajanan Maharaj Trimbakeshwar Bhakta Niwas is about 900 m, or a 10–15 minute walk, from the temple.

The season can shape your visit, from the weather you’ll travel in to the crowds you may find at the temple. Use this guide to choose what suits your family and your plans.

October to March is the best all-round choice if you want pleasant weather for darshan and nearby trips. April and May have fewer crowds, but temperatures reach 35°C to 40°C. Crowds rise around Ram Navami and Hanuman Jayanti, so these months aren’t equally quiet throughout.

The monsoon brings green hills and waterfalls, but also heavy rain. From mid-June, the monsoon arrives, and late June brings a rush of visitors. July to September can have long waits because of Shravan crowds.

Best day and time for darshan

The temple is open every day from 5:30 AM to 9:00 PM. General darshan is free. Paid VIP passes are available if you want to skip the longer general queue. For daily puja times and how the pass works, see our Trimbakeshwar temple timings guide.

Tuesday to Thursday, early in the morning, has the shortest darshan queues. Saturday, Sunday and Monday are the busiest days. Monday is Lord Shiva’s special day, so expect more visitors then. If a shorter wait matters to your family, choose an early weekday visit.

Festival dates 2026–2027

Festival days draw large crowds, and darshan queues can take 4 to 8 hours on these days. Keep the dates in mind when choosing when to travel.

  • Kartik Purnima: 24 November 2026 (Tuesday). Crowds gather at the temple and at Kushavarta Kund.
  • Mahashivratri: 6 March 2027 (Saturday). This is the biggest festival at Trimbakeshwar, with lakhs of devotees.
  • Shravan 2027: Maharashtra follows the Amanta calendar, under which Shravan runs from 3 August to 31 August 2027. The Shravan Mondays are 9, 16, 23 and 30 August.
  • In the Purnimanta calendar used in north India, Shravan 2027 runs from 19 July to 17 August.

Festival dates follow the Hindu calendar and can differ by a day in some panchangs, so confirm locally before travelling. Shravan dates also depend on which calendar you follow. If your visit depends on a particular festival or Monday, check the date against the relevant calendar and confirm locally.

Visiting during the Simhastha Kumbh 2027

The Kumbh period runs from 31 October 2026 to 24 July 2028. The Amrit Snan dates at Trimbakeshwar are 2 August 2027, 31 August 2027 and 12 September 2027. The heaviest crowds are expected in August and September 2027.

Shravan 2027, from 3 August to 31 August, falls inside this Kumbh peak. The second Amrit Snan, on 31 August, is Shravan Amavasya, so August 2027 will be very crowded. If you’re planning a visit then, expect a much busier town and temple.

As currently planned by the government, private vehicles won’t be allowed into Trimbakeshwar town on the main Amrit Snan days. Check official announcements before travelling. For more details, read our Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027 guide. You can also read how to reach Trimbakeshwar as you plan your trip.

If you are coming for a puja

If you’re coming for Kalsarp or Narayan Nagbali puja, avoid festival days. The ghats and priests are busiest then, so choose another time for your visit if you can.
