Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027 at Trimbakeshwar: Dates, Snan Days and Where to Stay

By · · 5 min read

Quick answer

The Simhastha Kumbh period at Trimbakeshwar begins on 31 October 2026 and ends on 24 July 2028. The three Amrit Snan dates at Trimbakeshwar are 2 August 2027, 31 August 2027 and 12 September 2027. The heaviest crowds are expected in August and September 2027. Plan your stay and travel around these dates.

We welcome pilgrims and families to Shri Gajanan Maharaj Trimbakeshwar Bhakta Niwas during the Kumbh. Here are the dates, travel plans and stay details to help you prepare.

What the Simhastha Kumbh is and why Trimbakeshwar matters

The Simhastha Kumbh is held once every 12 years, when Jupiter (Guru) enters Leo (Simha). Nashik and Trimbakeshwar hold the Kumbh together as a dual Kumbh, with different akhadas bathing at each place.

The Shaiva akhadas, including Naga sadhus, bathe in Kushavarta Kund at Trimbakeshwar. The Vaishnava akhadas bathe at Ramkund in Nashik. Trimbakeshwar is therefore an important place for pilgrims attending the Simhastha Kumbh.

The heaviest crowds are expected in August and September 2027. Ekadashi, Purnima and Amavasya days during the Simhastha period are also treated as special pilgrimage and darshan days. Expect crowds on those days too.

Kumbh 2027 key dates

The Maharashtra government announced the Kumbh dates in June 2025, as reported by PTI. The key dates are:

  • 31 October 2026: Flag hoisting; the Kumbh period begins.
  • 2 August 2027: First Amrit Snan, on Ashadh Somvati Amavasya.
  • 31 August 2027: Second Amrit Snan, on Shravan Amavasya. This is considered the most important.
  • 12 September 2027: Third Amrit Snan at Trimbakeshwar, for the Shaiva akhadas. Nashik’s third snan is on 11 September 2027.
  • 24 July 2028: Flag lowering; the Kumbh period ends.

Amrit Snan is also called Shahi Snan. If you’re planning a pilgrimage, note the three Trimbakeshwar snan dates and the August–September 2027 peak when deciding when to travel.

What to expect on the main snan days

The following are the government’s plans as currently planned. Check official announcements before you travel, as traffic and darshan arrangements may be updated.

  • Private vehicles will not be allowed into Trimbakeshwar town on the main Amrit Snan days.
  • Vehicles will be parked outside town, for example at Anjaneri. The administration plans to run free shuttle buses into town.
